My name is Alex Lorah.
I’ve always been fascinated by the ways in which varied mediums can inform how a piece of art is created and interpreted. The same artistic idea will become something completely different if realized in three dimensions instead of two, or digital instead of analog. As an artist, I make use of multiple mediums to get my ideas across, and take pride in a skillset that allows for detailed work both on a computer and at my workbench.
My favorite projects are those with a heavy focus on 3D space, like sculptures and dioramas. Balancing details so that there is something interesting to see at every viewing angle while maintaining a strong focal point is an interesting challenge.
I currently work at the University of St. Thomas on the Marketing Insights and Communications team, where I make use of several content management systems (CMS) like Cascade, Terminalfour, and the university’s own internal website manager, OneStThomas, to build and maintain a myriad of webpages.
Planning, building and painting miniatures has been my creative outlet of choice for years, and I’m proud to say I’ve taken the next step and started designing miniatures of my own using CAD software for 3D printing and tabletop use.
The process is lengthy and involved, but I believe that taking the time to learn the workflow of creating physical objects like this from scratch is an invaluable skill that can be applied to any number of complex or multimedia projects.
